Hi, I’m AJC and this is my 3rd blog … my other two blogs are about money: lots of it and how to make it. I happen to believe that the Internet is the new frontier with TONS of money-making potential …
… but, there are plenty of scams and schemes, too!
So, how to sort the wheat from the chaff? The good from the bad? The legitimate from the scam?
Well, I made my money in the old-fashioned way: through multiple businesses in the ‘real world’ as well as investing in stocks and real-estate (you can read about my $7 million dollar, 7 year journey here), so I don’t really know enough about making money the ‘new fangled way’ … on the Internet!
Having said that, I am working on two ‘real’ Internet business, and have a team programming both of them, but that’s not really me doing anything (except coming up with an idea, a marketing angle, and putting up some cash!).
No, for the purposes of my blog, I’m looking for web-based businesses that anybody can do, on their own, part-time, with little or no IT knowledge or capability … something that even a 60 year old like Lee can try on his own.
So, I thought that I should try it out … and, I thought that I should share the WHOLE story AS IT HAPPENS with you, the readers on my other two blogs, and the world!
And, I’ll chronicle my journey in ‘real-time’ … that is, I’ll write it here as I do it!
So, here’s the story so far:
I’ve tried the scams and ignored the schemes (in the interests of writing my other two blogs – neither of which are money-making ventures, by the way … I purposely have NO commercial angle to those blogs – or this one – accepting NO advertising or affiliate commissions or the like) and so far haven’t found an “off the shelf” way to make money online.
So, now it’s time to try Plan B: create my own Information Product (click on this link to see why this is a great way to start).
My plan is to take some of the information that I have already published on this blog and my other one and turn it into an e-book. The purpose isn’t to make money for me … it’s to show you how you can make money online.
So, I will ‘open up the books’ here [AJC: if I can find an easy web-based tool for accounting that lets me publish reports, I will literally 'open up the books' so that you can see how it works out, financially] …
Why Information Publishing?
Well, it lets me do something that I won’t do on my blogs: turn stuff that I know into stuff that I can sell … and, it allows me to sell all sorts of affiliate stuff (so, all the referrals that I make to various books and other useful products on this site, without any financial benefit to myself, can be sold WITH affiliate commissions on the new site).
Again, for your benefit. How?
Because you can think of some area where you are (or can quickly become) an ‘expert’ and follow in my steps … do you know how to sew? Write an eBook on how to sew quicker/better (get the idea?) … assuming that the site produces a useful income. That’s the purpose of this test!
So, as I write this post I am literally sitting down having this morning hit on the concept for a commercial version of my blogs, and am looking for the ‘right’ way to implement it.
For this, I have decided first to try out Derek Gehl’s new product, BeBiz – supposedly a way to create an sales-oriented internet site pretty quickly … since I don’t yet have the product (I am thinking an eBook to start with) or the means to create my own web-site from scratch, I am hoping that this product will lead me ‘by the hand’ as this product demo [AJC: which I have just paused to write this comment, and which I am about to continue watching before typing and more] promises.
We shall see …
This is a site you just may want to book-mark or subscribe to. You may also want to send an e-mail to you friends who may be interested in learning how to do the same … let me make my mistakes in public so that you don’t have to make them at all

As far as web-based tools, have you looked at google docs? It’s a basic office suite, with a word processor & spreadsheet. I don’t know if it will be sophisticated enough for what you are trying to do.
By the way, I’m here from reading your other two blogs and am looking forward following this new project. Good luck.

@ Zoodog – First comment on First Post … I owe you a beer! Thanks for the google.docs idea, I’ll look into it, but agree that it probably won’t ‘build’ the site I am looking for … and Word for Mac has some serious great templates for Newsletters that I am currently trying to ‘bastardize’ to create an eBook.

Great first post AJC. This is definitely something I will keep my eye on as I am starting a venture somewhat along the same lines.

One more thing AJC. I am curious to hear how your experience works out with BeBiz. Why not use Site Build It? You were the one that mentioned that to me, and I am researching that and similar type products for my product web page.

@ Emilio – Why don’ t you write a blog about your experiences as well? We might start a trend?
Yes, Site Build It is in the ‘grand plan’ (actually, I don’t really have a plan (that would be too sensible) but, I am going to start with a ’sales’ site, which BeBiz seems ideal for (except its $47 a month ridiculously high fee) … then I am going to …
Well, I can’t give everything away on my very first post, can I?

Google also offers a website building tool, never used it but looks pretty easy to use. If your looking for cheap domain reg and hosting check out aplus.net and cirtex, then download filezilla as a free FTP client. Thats what I use.
Great idea to start a new blog on this subject Adrian. It’s that interesting and important.

AJC,
I got late on the bandwagon and was not able to participate in the 7m in 7y, but I was actually thinking of doing what you said, and start a site that blogs about my experiences in general and from what I have gotten from you and other online mentors.

@ Josh – that remains to be seen (the interesting/important part)
My son is also trying to get me to use Freewebs (we used that for my AJCFeed.com site to bring together the various sites that I have – except this blog, so far – into the one place. However, I’m looking for a bit more in a tool, so we’ll see …
