repeat-until-rich [CLICK THIS]

Well, here it is!

A lot can happen in 4 days (and 3 posts … if you this is your first visit, start here!) …

I’ve posted here – for FREE to readers of this blog – the first draft of my eBook – just click on the above underscored link to download it. It’s posted here FREE (don’t you just love that word?) for a couple of reasons:

a) If you read my blogs, then there’s no new material here (but a very nice and easy ‘repackaging’) so why should you have to pay for it?

But, it wouldn’t be very nice if you distributed the book because there is a commercial point to this exercise … I need to sell the damn things (to people who otherwise may not read my blogs) to prove the online business concept to you!

[AJC: be warned, though, by downloading this eBook you agree to abide by all the copyrights, terms of use, and disclaimers contained in the book! Yadayada .. etc. .... etc.]

b) You’ve read my blogs (that’s probably how you got here) – or, at least this one – so you deserve a ‘free gift’ for all the pain I’m putting you through :P

c) You get to proof-read it for me … for free! Thanks :)

There’s probably three things that you will realize about me … probably great clues if you want to be successful in your online business (hell, any business!):

1. I’m fast – because I already had the ‘raw material’ for this blog. Interestingly, I could have written this a couple of months ago, because I found all the material that I needed for this eBook in the first 3 or 4 dozen posts on my blog.

2. It only took me about 4 or 5 hours of ‘work’ (mostly playing around with the Word template and cleaning up the articles that I cut/pasted together) to create one whole (pretty small, but quite pretty don’t you think?) Information Product

… and, the most important of all:

3. I take ACTION!

Again, unlike anything else that I do (including my blogs), I am writing this in ‘real time’ – warts and all – so that you get a sense of speed, and what is planned/unplanned …

…. remember, it was only a couple of days ago that it hit me, yet here we are:

- I use the term “repeat until rich” in my blog, a lot … it seems to signify a ’system’ …. systems are ‘good’ :)

- It would make a great domain name and wacko presto it was available and I Go-Daddy’ed it 48 hours later for a whole $10 a year

- It would make a great name for a book … or, series of books / Information Products

- Hey, I have enough content in my blog to write at least ONE eBook, so why don’t I do one NOW?

- Wow, I talk about e-businesses a lot, why shouldn’t I try and create one … AND blog about it … in REAL TIME

… as I just said: here we are just a couple of days later!

Since I have my 1st product, now I get to …. [AJC: hold that thought for today]

But, before I disappear back into couch-potato-world (for the rest of today) let me remind you that you can get started today:

i) What is it that you are always talking about?

ii) Hop onto WordPress.com (or one that accepts advertising, if that’s the direction that you want to go …. just Google – “how to create a blog” and see where that takes you)

iii) Start Writing

… in a couple of months, pick up back here (well yesterday’s post) because you, too, will have enough useful content for your own Information Product!

iv) Don’t think about it … just do it!

This is a ‘no lose’ situation and writing a blog (worst case) keeps you off the streets, doesn’t it?!

It is very nice to have all that information condensed down to a couple of pages. However, I did find the use of all caps a little disorienting. A solid first entry to the world of e-books. Congrats!

Thanks for the free preview of the book. I think you may have missed an opportunity in it, though. With some more content you may have been able to split it into 3 ebooks (one for each of 101, 201 and 301 strategies). You would have had 3 of your needed 4 products right there.

  • ZooDog // August 27, 2008 at 2:13 pm | Reply

I’ll take Ryan’s idea above and suggest that, after splitting it into 3 ebooks, you give away 101 and charge for 201 & 301. Which brings me to my next question. How do you plan on determining how much to charge for the ebook(s)?

Have you looked at Yahoo’s e-commerce offerings? [link removed]

In addition to your blog & sales sites, you should consider a forum site, for a more interactive discussion and to develop a community. You read the blog, buy the book and then interact with the author & others that have similar interests & ideas.

I like the idea of giving away 101 and charging for 201 and & 301, but together, not separately. Another way you could make money using this project is to start a weekly or monthly subscription newsletter (or one newsletter for each of 101, 201 and 301 targeted to people in different stages) using the concepts in the book but going into more depth with real-life examples, reader Q&A, trouble-shooting, for instance. Again, you already have a base of information to draw from, you’re just expanding on it. Thanks for putting the book together for us. I haven’t had a chance to look at it this morning, but I will.

@ Blumangus – You’re right … never noticed that it was ‘all caps’ … rather that it looked ‘pretty’ on the page …. guess I have to learn how to update the Style in Word.mac :)

@ Ryan – I could still do that – just expand on each section and treat this one as the ‘freebie’ / ‘intro’ to the series … although, I plan to start by selling this one, just to get the ‘making money online’ demonstration (which is the point behind this blog/eBook) on the road …

@ Shannan – Sounds like a paid version of my blog? This is indeed how to build an ‘information publishing empire’ but right now I don’t want to detract from the main purpose of my blogs which is to give back (hence, FREE and advertising-free) … it’s a karma thing ;)

@ ZooDog – aaarghhh! My son’s built the Forum and been on my back to seed it with topics … guess I’ll have to do it now! More work … damn, I’m supposed to be retired!

  • Shannan // August 27, 2008 at 4:19 pm | Reply

In a way, yes. But you can always go into even more depth for paid subscribers. Or maybe it’s like a paid version of 7M7Y, addressing subscribers personal situations. Of course, nothing wrong with free content and giving back, just brainstorming ‘money making online’ techniques. :)

    @ Shannan – absolutely! Thanks.

Just downloaded the book. At first glance, it looks good. I’d agree with the commenters on the “all CAPS” suggestion (i.e., change it). Breaking the book into 3 is a great suggestion, too. In fact, one could break this concept into MANY eBooks, all narrowing the focus from this broad overview into specific topics.

Great first start. The sky’s the limit! The first order of business, it seems, is to get people to a) find the book and/or b) to find your sales site.

I’ll be watching closely to see how you do that.

  • AJC // August 27, 2008 at 7:01 pm | Reply

@ Bill – I was hoping YOU could tell me how to do that! :)

I certainly apprecfiate all the effort you have taken to produce the product aka E-book. I’m am working on a similar idea that I am working on. Also my son and I are about to launch our own Father & Son blogsite dedicated to the 7m7y emperiment. I’ll keep you updated

@ Lee – good to get the family involved in your finances … good luck with the eBook idea!

  • Scott // August 28, 2008 at 11:23 am | Reply

Excellent work Adrian, and put together really fast! I think it’s a great idea and I really appreciate the time and action you’ve taken to put it together. I’ve saved all the posts you have done throughout the entire 7million7years blog and reviewed everything from time to time as well as the candidate selection blogs but i’m glad you’ve begin condensing the information together. Great work!

  • AJC // August 28, 2008 at 2:33 pm | Reply

@ Scott – Do I get an elephant stamp? :) Seriously, I’m not doing this for the information content in the eBook … or the potential revenue (you’ll see that I will most likely cut this ‘experiment’ off well before it has a chance to make ‘real money’) … rather to learn with you how to set up a real online internet business, including: product (well, at least THAT proved to be easy); technology (next cab off rank); marketing (I’m figuring this to be the hard one).

  • geoluis // August 28, 2008 at 5:33 pm | Reply

Thanks for the demonstration… I really feel your #3 “Take Action” should really be #1. Without it nothing will come about.

I will be following along to see this thing through.

Lastly, you mentioned that your marketing campaign is turning out to be the hard one. Could the solution lie in applying the concept of working backwards on this project? Similar to your other project.

So the question might be how much do you want/need to generate? What s the budget for google ad words?

    Just thoughts…

Some thoughts on marketing an ebook:

it’s been my experience that you should do the market testing (how many people want to read what you plan to write? how many people are searching for the info online each month?) before you do the writing.

If in fact, the numbers work out (lots of people want to know), then you would probably want to see what kind of competition you have. Is everyone else offering basically the same information for free? If so- why would people buy an ebook if they can get the information somewhere else for free? It CAN be done, but this makes your challenge much greater, and will limit you to a smaller market of buyers (most people will take the free info over buying).

If you find you have good numbers of people wanting the information you have; and little or no free information on the topic is accessible, you probably have yourself a great idea for an ebook/info product to sell.

From there, you can write the book & get it online with a standard sales letter and/or thru clickbank and similar sites. You can use pay per click advertising to bring people to your sales page; and run the numbers to know that you’ll earn more in sales than what you spend on pay per click advertising with simple mathematical formulas. You can become active in forums and social networking sites where your target market “hang out” online, establish relationships and trust. You can use blogs to drive traffic to your sales page. You can allow affiliates to sell your product for you, sharing the profits.

Just some thoughts off the top of my head – a little brain dumping if you will!

  • AJC // September 7, 2008 at 4:22 pm | Reply

@ Debbie – Thanks. I agree: with any business, you want to see if you have a market first, and competition a very close second. But, online there is a third step: you need to do the same thing for the KEYWORDS that people will typically use to find you.

In other words, you have to compete to stand out from the crowd 9so that people can find your ad/site in the first place) AND have a product with little or no (esp. no ‘free’) competition … this is a ‘hard ask’.

    We’ll see what happens :)

BTW: if you start with a blog on the same subject, as I suggest, then you already take care of some of the ‘is there a demand for this type of information’ stuff – no blog traffic? Expect even less for a paid product!
